the Seacoast

NORTH HAMPTON | North Hampton has welcomed a brand new business
this month: Barrymore Designs, located on Route 1 at 61 Lafayette
Road.
This welcoming boutique offers fine decorations and gifts as well
as custom-made items. Carrying an exclusive line of Lunt Silversmiths,
they classify their style as Coastal with a contemporary flair.
In addition to merchandise, they also offer in-house and on-site
lighting, design and furniture placement consultations as well as
event decorating both during the holidays and throughout the year.
Showers, weddings, corporate events or dinner parties will be a
huge success with a guiding hand provided by Barrymore Designs.
Owned and operated by life partners Patricia Couture and Pete Meyer,
this joint venture brings together a team with both creative and
business backgrounds.
Pat, a lighting designer by trade for more than 20 years, wanted
to incorporate her interior lighting and design talents with a design
center and gift shop for other designers and consumers. Previously,
Pat owned Wind and Wheat Country Shop in Bedford (NH) for 12 years
and has developed lighting concepts with many local builders. She
has also worked extensively in the Hampton, Rye and Kittery areas
with private homeowners to develop distinct and complimentary design
and lighting concepts for their homes. Shepard’s Cove and
Playhouse Circle are just a few local communities that have been
touched by her talent.
Holding a degree in psychology, and a former eight-year employee
at Rockingham Electric, Pat has done extensive research on the effects
of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). SAD is a common ailment that
affects many Americans, especially in areas like the Northeast,
during this time of year. Pat has access to a vast array of information
on the subject, as well as access to specialized lightbulbs, called
“full spectrum bulbs,” for use by those affected by
SAD. She is always happy to share her knowledge on the subject.
Pat’s creative specialty is decorating with the incorporation
of antique items like skis or crochet mallets. This is a thoughtful
way to personalize a gift or a decoration for your home tapered
to a special interest or hobby. And, if you have a special vase
or wreath you would like decorated, bring it in and Pat will work
her magic.
Pete is retired from a 20-year military career as a major. After
his long time service as a pilot for the Marines, Pete has worked
with in the computer industry and commercial airlines for the past
15 years. He has taken a sabbatical to handle the sales and marketing
aspect of Barrymore Designs. In fact, he is particularly proud of
the baby line they carry called “Tickles and Giggles”
handpainted by his daughter, Diane Soucy.
Gift Cards are available at Barrymore Designs, and are also a great
idea for occasions throughout the year. A lighting, design or furniture
placement consultation makes a great gift for new homeowners anytime.
And don’t worry about bringing your fellas along to the boutique,
ladies — Barrymore Designs has provided a very comfortable,
“gentlemen’s waiting area,” complete with television
and fireplace.
Barrymore Designs is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and
Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
and Sundays from 12 p.m.-5 p.m.; the shop is closed on Mondays.
They can be reached at (603) 964-7337 for a consultation or more
information on their offerings, and will soon be viewable online
at www.barrymoredesigns.com.
